Mike Besecker - Saxaphones
Mike was just eight years old when he picked up his first saxophone and it's been a major part of his life ever since. Mike has been performing since the age of fourteen. If he was not a regular member with a band, he was “sitting in” with other groups, perfecting his craft. Being from Jacksonville, most of Mike's playing was done here locally. Mike knew and sometimes played with many local musicians that have gone on to become well known. In fact, he was asked to join a local band called 'The Classics', who of course went on to became inter-nationally known as 'The Classics IV'. They were disappointed to learn that Mike had just signed up to join the navy, and he had to pass.
Mike spent four years in the navy, playing his sax aboard ship and in ports of call whenever he could. After his navy tour he returned home, and began again playing with local bands. In the mid 70's, a job out of the union hall landed him a touring gig with the show and dance band 'Atlantis'. Mike's naval service and performing on the road, allowed him to visit and perform in many places around the world and across the country. "It has all been some of the greatest moments of my life".
Playing on the road was great and Mike recalls the experience fondly, but during this time he had a young daughter at home. Mike was not willing to sacrifice his relationship with his daughter, Beverly, or miss those special moments watching her grow up, so he left the road and returned home to Jacksonville.
Mike is currently employed as an engineering draftsman. He has continued his passion for music, playing at every opportunity, and now as a member “THE COMPANY” it continues. "Let’s play!"
