Paul 'Dobbie' Dobson - Trumpet
A touring professional since the 1970's, Dobbie has performed on the legitimate side in various orchestras in Detroit, Sarasota, and Tampa. He was selected to perform as the soloist in the All-Star College Jazz ensemble combining the hottest jazzers from the U of Miami, UF, FSU and USF jazz programs. He has worked and appeared with many headliners such as Dottie West, Steve and Edie Gourmet, the Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, The Floaters and the Five Specials, Skip Van Winkle (Bob Seger), and Helen O'Connell. He also appears with his own jazz quartet, 'DDQ' and the Professors Four, sponsored by the EMMA concert series. Dobbie studied with Marcus Belgrave (Tonight Show Band, Ray Charles, AND MANY MORE) in the Detroit area, performing with the �New Detroit Jazz Ensemble�. In Sarasota he performed with the Sarasota Opera Company. Dobbie studied in Tampa with Don Owen, principal trumpet with the Florida Orchestra, He received his undergraduate degree in music there and has taught High School and Middle School band as well as working with several junior college jazz programs; Henry Ford CC and Lake City CC. Paul Is married and has a TOTAL of 8 children and 10 grandchildren! (I was always told 'to find something you�re good at and stick with it') He is a combat wounded, veteran of the Viet Nam War. He served as a rifleman in Viet Nam with the 101st Airborne Division '67-68', and served stateside with the 82nd Airborne Division. He is a SCUBA Instructor (YMCA, and SSI) an avid spear fisherman, golfer (16 HCP), and skydiver. His three brothers are all very close and important to him and are an adventurous group; Kim, a retired military Special Forces master Sergeant, his Brother Kevin a Navy Bomber pilot (A-6 fighter/bomber) who now flies big jets for Spirit Airlines, and his little brother Robert who is a full-time firefighter in Punta Gorda. When the Dobson boys get together to party, WATCH OUT, someone is gonna get hurt.
